My Story

Ah where to begin…I was born the second of five children in an Irish Catholic family.  There was lots of love and fun growing up in a big family in a neighborhood full of big families.  I somehow navigated Catholic school and developed a belief in a benevolent God who watched over me.  I successfully achieved a degree in Business Administration from Towson University in 1985 and opened my own construction company in 1988.  I worked hard, rose to the challenges in front of me and persevered fairly well until…

I was feeling the weight of my busy life in 1995, what with operating the company by myself, running around after my boyfriend’s two young sons (the fun part!) and general living issues, who wouldn’t be tired??  But I was fatigued so regularly that I went for a check up.   The diagnosis was sobering:  “You have a fatal progressive disease in your liver.  It will take your life eventually, we just don’t know when.”  Wow.  First came denial then blame and finally acceptance…  I took the advice of my doctor and did an experimental study, where I was used as a guinea pig for the latest attempt at a cure.  The treatment nearly killed me.  Not only was I sick all the time, couldn’t work, cried at every little thing but my boyfriend thought it would be better if I lived somewhere else, so I had to move back home with my parents…at age 36…with my parents.

One night in the middle of this pity party, I ran into an old acquaintance who was so bright, happy and brimming with joy, I fairly accosted her demanding that she help me.  After spilling out my story between wrenching sobs in her car, she said, you really have to read Catherine Ponder.  Who?  Get the Dynamic Laws of Healing.  I high-tailed it to the local bookstore and bought it.  And I learned the secret.

I learned that the answers are not “out there” or “up there.” They are in here.  In me.  And nothing has been the same since.

I never took another treatment for my liver from an MD.  I was led to an herbalist in 1995 and 13 years later, I still see her every 6 months.  I kept up my exercise, tightened up my diet and began to meditate more.  And life got better --I got better.  I have not had a single symptom since 1997.

I began a support group (called the Prosperity Group) and we read a lot of books about prosperity and practiced and watched each other get prosperous.  (I still teach a class based on this group – but now both online and in a college classroom.)  And I became prosperous too.  First, a new career in financial planning, then a good income, then a beautiful home, then a lovely son and now a lucrative career in coaching.

Of course, this all took many years and many steps, but it has led me to here and now - where I spend my days helping others to achieve their heart’s desires.   I have learned that it is in the seeking that we find our Higher Power and it is in the sharing that we find joy.

Jake's Story

The most significant manifestation in my life so far has been the adoption of my son.  He was born in Guatemala on 10-27-06.  It took 15 months to bring him home in a process that was not without it's difficulties!  In fact, when the paperwork was held up, yet again, in December, I said, "Enough!" and flew down there to be with my son for the final weeks.  Which turned out to be 3 months.  And there I was: a single woman, alone with an infant, in a dangerous country where I did not speak the language.  Brave or crazy?  Still not sure...

It took the entire 3 months for me to come to appreciate the land of my only son. While working out my US Immigration issues (who knew that fingerprints could expire???)  I was forced to stay in this "Land of Eternal Spring" and learn how to speak Spanish and cook rellenitos and befriend some "real" Chapins and take care of a small boy (and even bond with my mother, who came to visit for 6 weeks!) I experienced more blessings than I could've imagined even though I was hard-pressed to be grateful for them at the time...

Below are some of the images from that trip.

Susana's Story

A (Real) Fairy Tale

I have this beautiful story to tell about a messenger and a princess both named Susana…

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away (Guatemala), a fair maiden (me) was in the process of adopting her son (Jake), when she met an awesome and accomplished attorney (messenger) who also owned an orphanage.  The Guatemalan government had banned all adoptions for foreigners (after Dec. 2007) unless you were a foreigner who happened to be in Guatemala…and this fair maiden (me again) happened to be in Guatemala…

And so this lovely abrogada (attorney) introduced me to a little baby who needed a home.  She was just 3 months old at the time (Feb. 2008) and even though her new mom was a little nervous…she trusted God and signed the papers!

And now my son and I await the arrival of his sister…who will be named Susana after that fateful messenger.

She should be arriving in soon and we cannot wait!
